According to the American Dental Association, 10.8 million Americans suffer from temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). The condition is caused by an improperly aligned jaw, which contributes to a myriad of problems such as: (1) headaches or migraines (2) vertigo (3) stiff neck, (4) tingling of the finger tips, etc. Neuromuscular dentistry seeks to cure TMJ by retraining the muscles, tissues, and nerves to properly align the jaw at rest.  If left untreated, the jaw must work harder to perform basic functions, such as chewing or speaking and in turn may repeatedly injure the surrounding muscles.

Thanks to cutting edge advances in neuromuscular dentistry,  head and neck discomfort can sometimes now be effectively treated without medication or surgery.

Dr. Corbett has expertise in neuromuscular dentistry. He provides evaluation and treatment for TMD symptoms such as headaches, facial pain and body aches in relation to your orthodontic problem.

Solving the Pain Puzzle with Neuromuscular Treatment

Dentistry plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating many chronic aches and pains.  Neuromuscular orthodontics considers the physiologic aspects of head and neck symptoms.  The focus of neuromuscular orthodontics is finding the etiology of TMD-related symptoms.

Neuromuscular/TMD analysis is part of Dr. Corbett's orthodontic evaluation.  With sophisticated  analysis we are able to quantify your optimal jaw and bite position and thus, find balance between facial muscles and joints (fig. 1 & 2).

Bite evaluation and analysis is comfortable and pain-free, resulting in precise diagnoses.  Our evaluation consists of relaxing the entire body, including the head and neck muscles in an atmosphere conducive to full mind and body relaxation.
